Network Engineering

The equipment that ISP’s like AT&T and Xfinity have frequent problems.

We commonly refer to the ISP provided devices as “Routers” but in reality those devices have a Modem, Router, Switch, and an Access Point.
The Modem is the device that converts signal from the line (the wire going to your house) into data that a typical computer interface can read.
The ISP includes the other equipment inside of one big box so that they can get you up and running quickly, but other parts are rarely high quality and we find a lot of the provided equipment crashes monthly.

Getting a dedicated Cable Modem and using a name brand router can make a huge difference in network reliability, and sometimes speed.
Fiber (AT&T) does not allow for you to remove their provided device, and fiber is a little different using an “ONT” or Optical Network Terminal. You can put your provided AT&T device into “IP-Passthrough” mode in order to by-pass the majority of the devices equipment and gives you the freedom to use any router you want.

Bypassing the ISP equipment is your first step to getting a reliable connection.

A Robust Network

Whether you’re launching a small business or leveling up your home network, I provide consultation and contracting to build high-performance bespoke networks tailored to your needs and budget.
I work with trusted brands:

  • Ubiquiti for light to medium-duty networks — fast, reliable, and perfect for most homes and small businesses.
  • MikroTik for more technical, customizable network solutions.
  • For advanced projects needing both high-speed Wi-Fi and enterprise-grade security, I strategically combine both brands for the best results.
  • Other hardware is perfectly acceptable, the former are just my go to products.

Note: I primarily only provide maintenance plans for Ubiquiti equipment.
